Singles Looking to Date | The Truth About Online Dating Sites

Online Dating Has Been Around for a While

Back in the early 2000s I use to play around (yes I said play) on Lavalife, listening to tons of voice messages and using my sexiest voice to lure admirers from all over the city.  I did not have a computer way back then, but Creative Loafing(AD) use to offer tons of ads featuring dating phone lines that have since been replaced by the likes of online dating sites.  I spent countless Friday evenings chatting with strangers over the phone and duping myself into believing I actually had a life and friends....   :(

As the online dating game progressed, and I was able to afford a computer, I tried a few dating sites that in one phrase or less I would like to review based on my own experiences.  Please keep in mind that I consider myself  as one who has "compromising characteristics' which makes a HUGE difference on what stockpile of responses you will be dealt by each site's matching philosophy.  Here are a few of my compromising qualities:

  • Divorced
  • Over 45
  • Overweight
  • with Kids
  • Frequents Casinos
  • non-Christian
  • smokes sometimes (LaGloria's and Nat Sherman's menthol)
  • drinks occasionally (Jack is my other man)
  • have cats and dogs
  • uses profanity
  • against patriarchy (and vocal about it)
Okay now this is about the worst list of characteristics that anyone looking for a date can put up on a dating site, however I take a pretty mean picture (and have an authentic vagina) so I was honest anyway and still got some dates :)

Online Dating Website Review -- in a Nutshell

Based on the above 'pretty awful' characteristics, here is how I rate each site:

BBW Cupid - You will find foreigners looking for VISAs to enter the US thinking thick girls are desperate enough to provide them.  Oh yeah, and they are all widows .......(yeah right).

BBW Personals Plus - The guys here have profiles worse than mine and they look like they've been to prison..........a few times.

eHarmony -- If you are not the perfect date with a perfect record, forget about it -- actually I think you need to be a virgin because these guys are looking for 1st and only baby mommas.....and the site's prices are so high guys are apparently willing to pay for them.

Match.com -- This is the Fred and Wilma Flintstone coupling site, which is reasonably priced, has loads of selection and a bunch of cute working class fellas.  I am actually still friends with two of the guys I met here.

Lavalife -- Use to be free for women and when it was, the only thing the guys wanted was sex.  I met my ex-husband here (you do the math) and I would put this site on a lower level than match.com, specifically for women over 40.  I still prefer match.com for meeting decent, real guys who are my age and local.

Mingle2 -- Free and you get what you pay for -- a lot of hip hop culture and young guys who have cheap cameras, which take bad photos.  Who's raising these kids?

SeekingArrangements -- For cutie co-ed sugarbabies who are on the way to becoming the next Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, but want to get paid NOW!  Yes, you can get paid for eating lettuce only.  Wish they were around when I was younger.  :)

Final Analysis on Online Dating Websites

I am not an under 25-year-old virgin, with no children in the moral majority, however, I still find dating websites to be quite fruitful and preferable for me than going to clubs, mixers or Wal-mart.  I am definitely non-traditional and like potential dates to know that before even wasting their time.  As a writer and computer/text/phone/electronics junkie, I'd much rather get to know someone via a profile, chat and phone vs on the streets of the city at large.  Also, I do get a kick out of all the male admirers who lavish me with compliments even when I am not interested in a relationship (and they aren't either).  All things considered, I will continue to use online dating sites, because at the least they are a form of entertainment.

Ladies let me know what your experiences have been!
